Guaranteed Comic - Legenderry

Anyone out there like Fables?
Well writer Bill Willingham is doing his 'steampunk' take on some popular licensed characters such as Green Hornet.
The first issue of LEGENDERRY from Dynamite Comics is great, with some really deep dialogue and the art work is FANTASTIC.

We know you are going to like this comic so it is our latest GUARANTEED COMIC.
What's a guaranteed comic? Check out the info here.

And if you are a huge Bill Willingham fan, check out our signed Fables #125, signed by Bill at Baltimore Comic Con.

Game "Night" is actually Game "Afternoon" tomorrow

Since the store will be closing at six for New Year's Eve, we won't be able to have our regular 5-9 Tuesday Game Night. So instead, they'll be playing earlier in the day - say, noonish? Whenever people roll in. If you've got the day off from school or work or planning your big bank heist, come on in and join the fun. We promise the games won't be as complicated as this:

And remember, you'll also be able to pick up this week's new comics at the same time. It's a win-win!

Free Comic Book Day

Scott and I were just discussing Free Comic Book Day, you know that little thing that happens on the first Saturday of May every year. He just blew me away with a great idea he had.

I can not reveal the idea yet, but we will reveal it soon. I'll give you a hint from the picture above. We are also discussing an AWESOME prize (and I mean awesome).

More info when we get the kinks worked out. I really think 2014 may be our greatest Free Comic Book Day ever.

What if Star Wars were a 1980s anime?

If you like "alternate universe" versions of the galaxy far, far away, you should check out The Star Wars - instead of being based on the movies, it's based on George Lucas' first-draft script. So while a lot of the ideas are familiar, everything is just a little bit "off." Nothing as goofy as that pretend anime up there, but enough that you know this definitely isn't the story you know by heart.

Just remember: that's The Star Wars. The "The" makes it different!

Shia LeBeouf, professional plagiarist

So you may have heard that Shia LaBeouf, twitchy star of Transformers, directed a film. And that he also stole the story directly from a comicbook.

Merry X-Ma(n)s!

It looks like Magneto and Professor X are trying to recruit a new mutant - one who can travel all over the world in a single night:

And also, here's this:

Have you heard about Amazon's delivery-drone plan?

There may be some down sides:

Until the FAA clears this harebrained scheme for real-world use, and you can really get things delivered in as little as 30 minutes, remember that we can order pretty much any comicbook, trade paperback, or board/card game that's in print and have it here for you - with absolutely zero delivery charges! - in just a week or two. If there's something you've been looking for but haven't been able to pick up yet, come in and ask if we can order you a copy.

Due to the snow we are closing at 7PM tonight.

Beware the Krampus!

Check out this new Image comic that just came out this week:

Here's the official description:

Meet the Secret Society of Santa Clauses. For centuries, Father Christmas, Ded Moroz, Hoteiosho, and others have magically distributed Christmas cheer to children around the world. But when the source of their power is stolen, a desperate Society turns to an usual source for help: the dreaded Krampus, child-punishing demon of holiday lore. Free of his cell for the first time in decades, will the Krampus uncover the truth behind the Santas' depowering or leave his jailers to their ultimate fate? It's Snake Plissken by way of the Grinch as the darkly comedic adventure begins here.

So that's all well and good; how's the actual product?

I got to take a look at couple of these in person (Five and Nine, if you're curious) and they're goofy little designs that do a surprisingly good job of capturing the look of the actors.

JUST ARRIVED - Monster Hunter International RPG

The Monster Hunter International Employee's Handbook and RPG describes the world and characters of Larry Correia’s MHI novels.

Vampires, werewolves, zombies, and other horrors have plagued our world unchecked for far too long. Now you can help put an end to these monsters, and many others, with The Monster Hunter International Employees Handbook and Roleplaying Game!

Based on the best-selling “Monster Hunter International” novels by Larry Correia, the MHIEHRPG is your official guide to Monster Hunter International and the world it fights monsters in. Even better, it’s also a roleplaying game that includes all the rules you need to create characters, play the game, and have amazing adventures in the MHI setting! The MHI Roleplaying Game uses the award-winning HERO System rules. They’ll be included in the MHIEHRPG book itself so you don’t need to buy any other books to play the game.

The MHIEHRPG is a full-color, hardcover book that will also include:

- full details on MHI: its history; how it’s organized; the types of missions it takes and how it prepares for and executes them

- how the US government’s involved in monster hunting, including the PUFF system of bounties that provides most of MHI’s income

- character sheets for all the major characters featured in the MHI novels, including Owen Z. Pitt, Julie Shackleford, Earl Harbinger, Lord Machado, Susan Shackleford, the Sanctified Church of the Temporary Mortal Condition, Special Agents Myers and Franks, and many more

- details and character sheets on the monsters MHI fights (and that your RPG characters will fight, too)

- how magic works in the world of MHI — and how your character can cast spells

- original MHI fiction by Larry Correia!

Horror Classics Mystery Minis

The Maxx remastered

One of last week's new books was Maxx Maxximized #1, from IDW. It's a reprinting of the famous '90s indie comic, noteworthy for being the first thing Image published that was more than just an excuse to draw big boobs and guns. In fact, Image's reputation as a publisher where cool books like The Walking Dead, Saga or Chew belong can all be traced back to The Maxx.

But this isn't just a straight re-release of the old book. Working with creator Sam Kieth, they went back and rescanned all the original art, and had it recolored from scratch. But before you start thinking "George Lucas," there's a letter from Sam in the book explaining why things have been changed, and why this isn't an attempt to fix what wasn't broken. It really is just about cleaning and clarifying the art. Take a look at this side-by-side comparison:

That's quite a drastic improvement, isn't it? Here's the promo copy for the book:

Sam Kieth has long been renowned for his stunning artistry and insightful and quirky stories. Now, IDW is proud to present a re-mastered edition (complete with new scans of all Maxx pages from the original art) with revised coloring, all overseen by Kieth. The Maxx tells the story of a homeless person who lives in a box and moves back and forth between our reality and "The Outback," a heroic fantasy realm. He is aided and accompanied by Julie Winters, a social worker in our world and a beautiful jungle princess in The Outback.

Now we have a special treat for you. The Maxx was so popular back in the day that MTV bought the rights to turn it into an animated series. Thanks to the magic of the internet, you can watch the first episode right now for free:

Maxx Maxximized looks like it's going to be a beautiful book, and we already know that the story is going to be a mind-bender. Try it out for yourself, and experience an updated take on one of the most popular indie books of the '90s boom.

However, right now it's a comic from Dark Horse, available in both single issues and tpbs. If you're tired of mopey, sparkly vampires, The Strain may be the remedy you're looking for. We have plenty to go around, so come in today and ask for a copy.

Action Figures and Statues are 40% OFF
Games/Miniatures are 30% OFF
Trades and Graphic Novels are 25% OFF

Spot the difference

If you've had enough mall madness, remember: we're still open and the sales are still going on. Plus, we're a lot more fun than most stores. Come in, say hi, get some amazing deals on the stuff you really want this Black Friday.

Black Friday

So I grabbed 2 dozen donuts and was on my way down Industrial Highway to the store this morning when my friend (and Keystone Gaming Society member) Sam texted me to ask where I was because there was a long line outside the store.

I checked my clock, it's 6:57, I roll in to the parking lot and he was not kidding there was a line to get in to the store.

Wow!! Black Friday will even work at the Comic Store.

We are going to make a few tweaks for next year, but this will become a yearly thing for us now.  Who would have thought?  It was good to see everyone.  And after that non-stop hour of register running I finally got a break to eat a donut and drink a Monster.

Thanks to all the crazies that came out this morning.

Justice League Thanksgiving (WARNING - STRONG LANGUAGE)

I had to post this, it cracked me up.
There is strong language in it, you have been warned.

Lady Sif Visits the Children's Hospital Los Angeles

This is just a nice, heartwarming story for the pre-Thanksgiving days: Jaimie Alexander, who plays Sif in the Thor movies, visited a children's hospital in full costume, hanging out with the kids and letting them play with the weapons for a day. That's pretty cool!

We will be eating turkey with our families on Thanksgiving and going to bed early so we can be up in time for the BLACK FRIDAY SALE at the store.

See you early Friday.

Catch all the Doctor Who references

So, you enjoyed "The Day of the Doctor" this past weekend, right? Well, no matter how big a geek you are, you may have missed some of the little nods to Doctor Who's 50-year history. Luckily, Buzzfeed has just the list to increase your nerd knowledge, The 35 Greatest Easter Eggs From The "Doctor Who" 50th Anniversary.

Now be honest: how many of them did you actually recognize before the list pointed them out to you?

(Just eight or nine, for me.)

The geekiest little chapel in France

The odds are good that you already know about Darth Vader being on the National Cathedral, but that's nothing compared to what we're about to show you.

It's an Alien. Like, a full-on Xenomorph alien:

That's just one of the gargoyles grotesques on France's Chapelle de Bethléem, which is a legitimate medieval chapel near Nantes, France. When the chapel was being restored in the mid-90s, they discovered that the old architectural drawing from the 19th century didn't specify what the sculptures were, so they kind of had free rein to update it as they saw fit. In addition to the Alien (which represents the Biblical Leviathan), there's also a Gremlin, Gizmo, and Mazinger Z as "the knight of modern times." You can see more photos at Geek Tyrant.

If you were in charge of geek-ifying a church, what characters would you put on it, and what would they represent?

HeroClix Kill and Keep Photos

Photos from the today's HeroClix Kill and Keep Event.
Thanks to Dave for letting me help judge. It was fun playing, I rarely get a chance. Lots of cans donated to the York Food Bank. Thanks to everyone who came out.

Black Friday, Who's Coming?

Who's planning on joining me on Black Friday at the store for are awesome door buster sales?
I'll be in at 7am to open the store and I'll have free donuts (while supplies last).

What's everyone's favorite donut?
