New AVENGERS: Age of Ultron Character Posters

A few more character posters have been released for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

(See here and here for other Age of Ultron tidbits)

Thor (above), Black Widow, and Nick Fury have been released today [other two below]!

Live Long and Prosper

Today, the world lost a great man, and I lost a great friend. We return you now to the stars, Leonard. You taught us to "Live Long And Prosper," and you indeed did, friend. I shall miss you in so many, many ways." -George Takei

We've lost a great actor, humanitarian, and friend today. Leonard Nimoy, 83, who played Spock in the original Star Trek franchise has passed away from end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

"His zeal to entertain and enlighten reached beyond Star Trek and crossed genres. He had a starring role in the dramatic television series Mission: Impossible and frequently performed onstage, notably as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. His poetry was voluminous, and he published books of his photography.

He also directed movies, including two from the Star Trek franchise, and television shows. And he made records, singing pop songs as well as original songs about Star Trek, and gave spoken-word performances — to the delight of his fans and the bewilderment of critics." [New York Times]

He was also given a place in the rebooted Star Trek films by director J.J. Abrams. In these films he played an older version of the Spock, who's younger form had been recast as Zachary Quinto.

R.I.P Leonard, and thank you for giving us everything.

Live Long and Prosper everyone.

Archie Comics gets in on #TheDress controversy

State of the Store Address 2015 (First Half of Year)

Just a quick update on stuff going on at the store.

The biggest thing we have going on is the new POS and Comic Pull system. We are doing a complete store inventory this weekend and have plans to begin using the new system beginning this Sunday. YAY !!! As I may have mentioned please bear with us as we continue learning all the ways to make the system work. It is very different from our old DOS based machine (yes you heard me correctly).

March
Central PA Comic Con
Yes, we will be there and have swag bags for the first 25 purchases each day.
We plan on having massive amounts of back issue bundles, some CGC books, and some of our best selling games.
Stop by and say hi. Also talk us up at the con so everyone knows what the greatest comic and game store is in PA.

April
International TableTop Day is back on Saturday April 11.
We are working on details now but I'm hearing lots of good things planned for this event.

May
FREE COMIC BOOK DAY.
Some planning has begun here.
As you all know we try and change it up every year and this year is no different.
Way until you hear what we have in store for you this year :)

Some more stuff I am hearing rumors about but nothing official yet:
Weekly Star Wars X-Wing tournaments may be starting up again, monthly Imperial Assault and Star Wars Armada events, DC Deckbuilding League.

So that is the big stuff coming up with the store.
If you have friends or family going to other stores, tell them they should give us a try.
We love new subscribers.

p.s
We are looking for some GMs for monthly events at the store.
I'll work on an official posting soon to let everyone know what we need.

Thanks everyone.
Keep spreading the word.

TableTop Day - Saturday, April 11

Just a reminder to mark your calendars for Saturday, April 11.
It's International TableTop Day and it's looking like it could be our biggest one yet.

To early to reveal but we have some amazing stuff in the works for the event.

Don't forget Tuesday evenings at the store is now referred to has TableTop Tuesday. We play a large variety of tabletop games.

"Powers" trailer

The series premieres March 10. If you don't have a Playstation (or, on top of that, if you don't have the Playstation Network), you'll just have to content yourself with some TPBs of the comic series until it gets picked up by Netflix or FX or AMC or whoever. Fortunately, the first season (if that's how this series is being divided) seems to be based on the "Who Killed Retro Girl?" arc that kicked off the book. So if you like Bendis' other work and you haven't given Powers a try yet, now is as good a time as any!

Even More Avengers: Age of Ultron Tidbits

More and more things keep being revealed about Avengers: Age of Ultron, the follow-up to the hit 2012 film.

Director Joss Whedon, in an interview with Yahoo! said, "[Avengers: Age of Ultron] got larger than the first film," Whedon says. "I didn't mean for it to get larger, but the climax that I pitched was completely unhinged and nobody said no, so that's that."

That sounds absolutely insane, since there's a cast of new and returning characters: Peggy Carter, Heimdall, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and the Falcon, as well as the original Avengers crew.

Anybody who has seen any of the more recent Marvel films is aware of some of the genre hopping that's been happening: The Winter Soldier was more of a spy thriller and there are rumors that Ant-Man is going to be like a heist film.

Whedon said, in the same interview, "To me, adventure film is the best way to put it," he says. "Then science fiction, action, western, war, woman's picture, horror movie ... I'm not kidding; every single one of those things is in there."

Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released May 1st!

Two more Age of Ultron morsels!

So, there's the official Hulk character poster. Below is the second TV spot that has started/will start airing!

This is getting so, so exciting!

HeroClix / Star Wars Miniatures Update

New HeroClix and Star Wars Miniatures have come in this week and much are already sold out.
We are working very hard to get more in ASAP and hope to have more HeroClix in a day or two.

Allocations of some of this product have hurt us as well as the West Coast Labor strike and a shipment that was lost in transit.

The HeroClix event for Sunday is still on, and is set to be a 2 booster sealed event.

Please consider reserving HeroClix and Star Wars Miniature items with us early so we can hold product for you when it first comes in. It will also help us in determining how much to order.

WarMachine / Hordes League Starting Monday

Western Immoren is plagued by ceaseless bloodshed, unspeakable atrocities, and constant strife. All nations and kingdoms are embroiled in armed conflict, enigmatic cults rise from the shadows to terrorize the citizens, and even the skies are filled with horrors. Life grows harder and harsher each day as these conflicts continue to intensify.

Though the strongest may survive, smaller and less resilient communities fall victim to any number of violent calamities raging across the land. Villages are wiped out, rural settlements vanish overnight, and many other residents are exploited by opportunistic villains once their protectors are slain or sent to fight elsewhere. A new apocalypse can be experienced each day in the regions less protected by the mighty Iron Kingdoms.

This season, you travel to broken lands that have fallen under the control of tyrants and warlords. The power vacuum left behind in these devastated regions has been filled by madmen and megalomaniacs. This upheaval has not gone unnoticed by the armies of western Immoren. It is time to gather your troops, call forth your greatest heroes, and march to take control of—or to protect—these war-torn areas.

Starting March 2 and running through March 29.
Stop in and sign-up today.

Robert Downey Jr is teasing us

Batman will protect Gotham City, not your computer

As reported by Engadget, the annual list of the worst passwords (as collated from massive dumps of hacked passwords) has been released.

For the first time, Batman cracked the Top 25 Worst Passwords list, sitting right there at #24. And of course, Superman is more powerful, being the 21st most common password.

If you use any of those, for cryin' out loud, change them!

Big Hero 6 takes home the Oscar!

This year's Best Animated Feature Film was Disney/Marvel Studios' Big Hero 6! Many polls believed that How to Train Your Dragon 2 would win, so it was an upset.

"From Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph, comes Big Hero 6, an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada. When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called "Big Hero 6." [Written by Walt Disney Animation Studios]

Stan Lee sends fan Amazing gift!

Jamel Hunter, age 8, was given the surprise of his lifetime.

"Jamel has autism, his early years like a movie about childhood, sometimes in slow motion, sometimes fast-forward, a hyper blur, but never the right speed, and always on mute. He did not speak until he was in preschool, when he began working with the Kennedy Child Study Center, which helps children with intellectual disabilities. He wandered away from parties, uncomfortable with the noise (via)."

Zack Snyder reveals his Aquaman?

This doesn't seem to be a piece of Game of Thrones fan art (which was my first thought), and he's definitely got the "A" belt buckle, so...

...yeah, that looks like an Aquaman who could command some respect!

The Winter Soldier has Joined the Ranks of the Marvel MMO

The Winter Soldier, trained assassin, known formerly as the best friend of Captain America, Bucky Barnes, has hit the shelves to be part of the Marvel Heroes MMO.

"Industry legend, David Hayter - best known as the English voice for Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid video game series - brings Winter Soldier to life in Marvel Heroes 2015, so players can expect dry banter between Bucky and his fellow heroes as well as brutal commentary on the tortured assassin life he's left behind."

He has plenty of fighting to do, much of it alongside Captain America and fellow assassin, Black Widow.

You can pick the Winter Soldier (and some cool swag) up for $17.99 at the Marvel Heroes site!

A cool thing: the US Presidents in comicbooks

In honor of Presidents Day, there's a fun feature on CBR showcasing appearances by every U.S. President since the Golden Age of comics - with the limitation that the appearance had to happen while they were actually in office! That's nearly 80 years' worth of cameos, with some rather unexpected sources.

GHOSTBUSTERS - The Board Game Update

All the talk last night at the gaming tables was about the Ghostbusters board game coming out later this year by Cryptozoic.

We have KICKSTARTED the game at the Retailer Pledge level in order to get the RETAILER ONLY GLOW-IN-THE-DARK Slimer miniatures.  We have 6 copies of the core game + the slimer figure + all unlocked stretch goals available for pre-order.

The sign-up sheet will be available next week (I'll let you know exactly when).
In order to sign-up and reserve your game we will need a $50 deposit (I do not know the final MSRP yet, I'm thinking it's going to be $80).

The game is to be released in October (but don't be surprised if there are delays).

More Information:

The cooperative game is designed by a team including Matt Hyra (DC Comics Deck Building Game, VS. System), Mataio Wilson, and Adam Sblendorio, with select art and figures designed by Ghostbusters comic artist Dan Schoening.

Players chose one of the four Ghostbusters (Peter, Egon, Winston, Ray) who each possess unique traits and abilities, then select one of the game scenarios, which can last from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the scenario and difficulty level chosen.  Players gain new abilities as they banish ghosts and level up, taking on greater challenges on the modular game board.  They can also use Ecto-1 to move throughout the city.  Players will face ghosts from the movies, cartoons, comics, and toy line.

The game contains 47 custom (32-50mm) plastic minis,  10 double-sided game board tiles, 6 dice (5 D6 & 1 D8),  43 Tokens (Streams, Slimes, Gates, XP Trackers), a PKE Meter, 4 player cards, 6 ghost cards, and a Ghostbusters Operations & Field Manual.

Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and also some MCU dates are changing)

Marvel just announced that Spidey may someday join the Avengers after all.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the webslinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.

Netflix is Developing a live action "Legend of Zelda" Series!

According to the Wall Street Journal, "The video streaming service is in the early stages of developing a live action series based on TLOZ, about an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule, said a person familiar with the matter. As it seeks writers to work on the show, Netflix is describing it as Game of Thrones for a family audience."

Now, as most of you know, there was a brief animated series for Zelda in 1989, and an attempt at a Super Mario Bros. movie in 1993. Both were flops. It will be interesting to see how Zelda adapts to live action, though a television series is probably better than a movie.

"As it is still seeking a writer to work on the series, Netflix has a long road to travel before a Legend of Zelda series actually becomes a reality. It’s also possible that Netflix or Nintendo will kill the project before it gets off the ground."

Marvel Announces "A-Force"

"The Avengers get replaced during Secret Wars courtesy of G. Willow Wilson, Marguerite Bennett, and Jorge Molina!"

This May during Marvel's Secret War event the Avengers are no more! So who did Marvel sign on to be the superhero team? She-Hulk, Dazzler, Medusa, and Nico Minrou (and more!) are going to assemble a new team called the A-Force.

A-Force will be cowritten by G. Willow Wilson and Margeurite K. Bennent, with illustrations by Jorge Molina.

"Stay tuned to Marvel.com/secretwars as the new Marvel Universe continues to be forged. Be sure to join the conversation on Twitter with #Marvel, #SecretWars, #MarvelAForce and don’t forget to follow us at @Marvel."
