As announced Sunday at SDCC, Marvel is finally cashing in on the success of their Agents of SHIELD TV show with a new ongoing series. Which, okay, is nice, but it's not really an earth-shattering announcement - more of an "everybody figured they'd do it eventually" thing.
But here's what's really cool: the book is going to be written by Mark Waid, a guy who's insanely knowledgeable about comics history, and this gives him access to pretty much every character Marvel has ever published. The book is going to feature everybody from the show - Coulson, yes, but also Agent May, Fitz and Simmons, all making their 616 debuts - but they'll also be recruiting specific guest star superheroes as the need arises.
To go along with the rotating cast of characters, there will also be a rotating team of artists: Carlos Pacheco is up first, but you'll also see guys like Chris Sprouse and Alan Davis. Plus, the book is going to be single-issue, done-in-one stories: if the art or the premise on an issue catches your eye, you'll be able to buy it without worrying that you won't see a payoff for another six months.
Personally, I'm very excited about this book, and will be adding it to my sub list when it comes out. The book starts in December, which means it should be in the October Previews catalog; at that point, we'll be more than happy to make sure you get a copy!
