Why Should You Become A CSW Subscriber?

Many readers who subscribe to DC Comics directly from DC through the mail are receiving the following letters today.

I find this very strange, especially since DC sales of Aquaman are off the charts and we have been given no indication that the series is ending.

So lesson to be learned - Don't subscribe to comics through the mail.  Come down to the area's #1 comic store - Comic Store West and start a subscription today.  It's FREE and you even get a discount on all of your purchases.

FREE RPG DAY - Mutants and Masterminds 2.0

FREE RPG Day is Saturday, June 16.

Similar to FREE COMIC BOOK DAY we have various FREE RPG books available while supplies last.

The next game to reveal Mutants and Masterminds 2.0

MUTANTS AND MASTERMINDS 2.0

GM: Jarret (ougonoozaru@hotmail.com)
Time: 4pm
Number of Players: 4 (could take 8 if there is enough interest)

Synopsis: Mutants and Masterminds 2.0 is a super hero RPG based game.

Super Smash Bros. Final FantasyPlayers will be taking on the roles of video game characters to replay the epic game Final Fantasy.
Players will have the choices of Link, Mega-Man, Cammy from Street Fighter, Princess Zelda (and her alter-ego Sheik) among others.

The heroes will take on the roles of the LIGHT WARRIORS, the real ones have mysteriously been lost....

They will battle their way through the lands to save as much of the planet as time will allow! Look for cameos by other famous (or infamous) video game characters as well as some in-jokes inspired by 8-Bit theatre.

Each character has abilities that would make them an asset to the team as a whole. To prevent too much in-fighting each PC has at least one attack which can injure any other PC despite several characters having ranks in Impervious Toughness.

The players will have to work together to complete the goals and defeat certain enemies.
Will these replacement LIGHT WARRIORS be better than the originals or will they fail miserably and disgrace the name of HERO for all time?

The sign-up sheet for this game will be up tonight.

Free Comic Book Day 2012 Recap

So our biggest day in Comic Store West history is coming to an end.
This is the first chance that I've had all day away from the register and I just wanted to offer a few thoughts.

First off thanks to everyone that helped me from going crazy - Eric, Dave, Josh, Art, Kara, Letitia, Miriam.

Secondly thanks for everyone who came out to support our Martin Memorial Library Fund Raiser.

Our Marvel Movie Marathon on the 8ft movie screen was a huge success, I've got requests for more movie marathons and X-Box tournaments.  We will keep you posted on these events.

Here's some quotes from people today that really made me feel great:

  • "I knew you would have the best sales today compared to the other local stores"
  • "You guys always seem to blow everyone else away with these special events"
  • "Best damn movie theater sin a comic store ever !!"
  • "I'm cancelling my subscription at and moving it to you guys today"
  • "Greatest Free Comic Book Day ever !!"
  • "You guys are great to do this every year"

We are so happy we can do these special events.  We have more in the works including this year's ZombieFest with Rocky Horror Picture Show and Free Comic Day Part 2.

The Avengers - Spoiler Free Review

I saw a special screening of The Avengers last night.
Here is my 10 second spoiler free review of the movie.

What I did not like:
1> Captain America's costume
2> Call the damn thing Cosmic Cube not the Tesseract
3> Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner
4> Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye
5> Did not seem like Thor had much screen time
6> Captain America with mask off for most of the movie
7> Why does Hawkeye need a laser sight on his bow?
8> The bad guys - Loki and Skrulls (or Chitauri) suck

What I did like:
1> Black Widow and Hulk stole the movie
2> Fight scenes ROCKED !!!!!
3> Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
4> Jane Foster and Pepper Potts cameos
5> Hawkeye's mechanized quiver
6> Did I mention the fight scenes !!!

Overall not better than the first Iron Man movie or Captain America.  I liked it better than Iron Man 2 and The Hulk.  I would say it's on par with Thor.  Defintely in the top 10 of the best comic book movies of all time.

Will I see it again?
Yes, I plan on seeing it again this Friday and then taking the family to see it next weekend.

P.S.
As with all Marvel movies, make sure you stay through the credits
